Today was the first time I saw our soon to be newest children’s home. I knew the area well (I used to live on the wrong side of the tracks several streets away and walked past these beautiful old buildings on my way to uni) but I had never noticed this little street tucked in amongst them. It was so peaceful, I came away knowing that this home will be a place of rest, where our children can put down roots and grow tall. Welcome to the family ‘The Beeches’

After over a year of planning, collaboration, and trying to patiently wait…building work 🪚has officially begun on our new supported accommodation site! This project represents a significant step toward providing much-needed housing and support for individuals in our community 🏘️Getting to this stage has been no small feat. From navigating planning permissions to ensuring the right partners were in place, it’s been a long but rewarding journey. A huge thank you to everyone involved for your tireless efforts, expertise, and passion.Stay tuned for updates as we move forward in bringing this vision to life! 😬#Supportedaccommodation #renovation #ProjectMilestone #Teamwork

This Summer we started sponsoring a breakfast club at Benfield Football Club 💙Every morning Mark and the team welcome in children and young people from the school next door, give them a healthy breakfast🍳 and then do a gym session with them in the boxing gym on site 🥊Mark is passionate about helping young people make better choices, be it for their physical health, mental health or for the direction their lives will take and we are so pleased we get to be a part of that 💙

Last week our two young people at Woodthorn View went on a camping trip 🏕️. Usually the two team members who would be ‘on shift’ would take them away. ❌ Not when it’s the Woodthorn View Team 🫶🏽 The whole team went on the trip 🙌🏼🥰 They love our young people and didn’t want to miss out on making memories with them, even when it was outside of their “job role” and they were “off shift”🧡 They love the team and didn’t want to miss out on making memories with each other too. Catherine Rollason has created a home 🏡 where the young people and team have relationships built on love, trust and care…and it really shows in how the young people have flourished. It’s not many managers who can say their team would “work” (camp 😜) for free, but that’s what happens when you have a skillful manager, a great company culture and a whole lot of love…it turns from a “job” into a vocation, a passion and a joy to do 🥳.

Its back to school today for most of our young people 📓 . For one of our young people today is a massive milestone... it is his first day back at school for 2 years 🙌 . The team have been on a journey with him, it started with him not speaking to anyone, being angry at anyone who tried to talk with him and him not coming out of his room. ⛔ The team could have taken it personally and asked for him to be moved on for "not engaging". ⛔ The Registered Manager could have asked him to be moved on when Ofsted said he wasn't making enough progress. 💪 But they didn't give up. They knew he had been through a lot, what he needed was consistency, care, lots of love and people who wouldnt give up on him regardless of what he did or didn't do. At the end of the day no one can make a child go to school if going makes them feel unsafe.👍 Slowly he began to text the team, he developed a strong bond with one Team member, Tina. He began to come out of his room to speak to Tina and then would go to the shops with her. 👍 Over time, he has developed relationships with other team members andwould spend more time outside of his bedroom and outside of the home. His school were amazing and called him every week to check in on him and to catch up with him. 😲 So when he voluntarily said, "I think I'd like to go back to school now," I think we all collectively fell off our chairs! He has thrown a lot at the team over the past 2 years, and they were there for him regardless. Now school life might throw at lot at HIM, but he knows the team will be there for him regardless. Its a very proud day for us all at ROC today, we are proud of the team who supported him, of Tina who so carefully developed a relationship with him, but mostly of him, for his huge act of bravery in stepping through those school doors today 😊.#backtoschool #care #socialcare

Finally it’s the school holidays! Not just a happy time for teachers 🙌🏼 but it also means we get to spend more time with our children, doing what we love. We are one day in and already- I’ve been serenaded by one of our young people MCing 🎤 - had a little visitor pop in to tell me about their big flamingo land plans 🦩 - had a very special phone call from one of our children who has just been discharged from hospital after a 6 month stay in intensive care, letting me know she spent her first support session at the beach 🏝️ - the children built this beautiful fairy garden 🧚♀️ - we have received a generous donation of toys to entertain the children over the 6 weeks 👏🏼It’s always the highlight of the day getting to hear from our children, Summer has only just started and I’ve got a feeling they are going to love it 🥰 What have you got planned this summer? (If you are a teacher I hope it’s lots of relaxation!)#summer #schoolholidays

This week we took part in our first Life Long Links initial meeting. Its part of the #stablehomesbuiltonlove agenda and seeks to provide a network of support children can rely on into adulthood. It might seem common sense to some but cared for young people often struggle to have a safety net past the age of 18, we are pleased that local authorities are actively making this happen for our young people. Other ways to support past the age of 18 that we have developed include👉 becoming part of the Care Leavers Covenant, providing employment, housing and support opportunities for children leaving care🏡 creating a Stay Close to Home model so that when our children turn 18 they dont have to leave us, they can stay with us for as long as they want us💸 Creating a savings pot for our young people that they receive once they turn 18 💰 Donating to "Dots Pot" our legacy funding pot any of our children and young people can access post 18 to help with - mortgage deposits-initial rent payments-furniture for a new home-contribution towards university -starting a business 📱 Most importantly keeping in touch. Love is about the journey, and the journey doesn't end at age 18. Keeping in touch shows you really care (and we do!), little gestures like a text, a birthday and christmas card, a call just to catch up and a coffee for a good natter really matter to people. Have you or someone you know been involved with Life long links yet?#stayingclosetohome #leavingcare #love
